Sports Venues Near Ring Road: A 15-Minute Drive Map

If you live or work near the Ring Road, you have more sports venue options than the rest of the valley combined. Ring Road threads through Koteshwor, Tinkune, Chabahil, Maharajgunj, Balaju, Kalanki, Ekantakuna, and back. Almost every futsal, cricket, badminton, and basketball cluster sits within 15 minutes of one of these junctions.

Why Ring Road geography matters

Two reasons:

1. Drive time predictability. Off Ring Road takes 5-12 minutes door-to-court. Inner-city venues can take 25-40 minutes in evening traffic for the same distance.
2. Parking. Ring Road-adjacent venues are newer and built with parking in mind. Inside the Ring Road, parking is often 200 meters away.

If you organize team play with 10+ people coming from different parts of the valley, picking a Ring Road venue cuts your "where do we play" debate in half.

Ring Road junctions and what's nearby

Koteshwor and Tinkune (east)

The busiest sports cluster on Ring Road. Multiple futsal courts, indoor badminton halls, box cricket cages, and at least one basketball-friendly multi-sport complex. 5-15 minutes from Pepsicola, Sinamangal, and Baneshwor.

• Futsal: Rs. 1,200-2,000/hr peak
• Badminton: Rs. 700-1,100/hr peak

Chabahil and Mitrapark (north-east)

Strong futsal and badminton supply. Cricket nets bundled inside futsal complexes. Multi-sport halls add basketball and volleyball. 5-12 minutes from Boudha, Gokarna, Tusal.

• Badminton: Rs. 600-1,000/hr peak

Maharajgunj and Lazimpat (north)

Premium cluster — tennis academies, indoor basketball, wooden-floor badminton halls. 5-12 minutes from Lainchaur, Baluwatar, Naxal.

Typical pricing:

• Tennis (hotel/academy): Rs. 1,500-3,000/hr peak
• Indoor basketball: Rs. 2,500-3,500/hr peak
• Wooden badminton: Rs. 1,000-1,400/hr peak

Balaju and Tahachal (north-west)

Older cluster with newer additions. Futsal dominates, with cricket nets and outdoor basketball courts. 5-10 minutes from Swayambhu, Sitapaila.

• Futsal: Rs. 900-1,600/hr peak
• Cricket nets: Rs. 700-1,200/hr peak

Kalanki and Sitapaila (west)

Futsal-heavy, with a few badminton halls. Useful if you live in Kuleshwor, Khusibu, or Bafal. 5-12 minutes from those areas.

• Badminton: Rs. 600-900/hr peak

Ekantakuna and Satdobato (south)

Crosses into Lalitpur but stays Ring Road-adjacent. Multi-sport complexes, badminton, futsal, growing basketball. 5-12 minutes from Jawalakhel, Lagankhel, Imadol.

• Futsal: Rs. 1,100-1,900/hr peak
• Badminton: Rs. 600-1,000/hr peak

Gwarko and Lagankhel (south-east)

Lalitpur side, but Ring Road-fed. Mix of futsal, badminton, and outdoor courts. 5-10 minutes from Imadol, Kuleshwor, Patan.

What "15-minute drive" actually means

This is the off-peak number. In rush hour (5-8pm), the same drive can stretch to 25-30 minutes if you cross Ring Road at the wrong junction. Two tips:

• Avoid Koteshwor 5:30-7:30pm if you're coming from the east. Take Tinkune instead.
• Avoid Kalanki 6-8pm if you're coming from the west. Try Balaju.
• Maharajgunj junction is slowest 5-7pm — start your slot at 7:30pm if you can.

Trade-offs honest organizers should know

Newer Ring Road venues are cleaner but pricier. Expect Rs. 200-400 more per hour than equivalent inner-city venues.

Parking is the main reason to choose Ring Road over inner-city. If your group has cars, this matters. If everyone takes a bike, less so.

Monsoon hits Ring Road outdoor venues just like everywhere else. Indoor halls in Tinkune, Maharajgunj, and Ekantakuna are your bad-weather backstops.

Air quality November-February. Indoor halls along the Ring Road sit closer to traffic and PM2.5 sources. Better-ventilated halls or pushing outdoor (when the AQI allows) are both reasonable calls.
